Description

This is a mid-18th century house with a later wing, now divided into three separate dwellings. The main house is constructed of sandstone ashlar with alternate raised quoins, while the wing is of brick with stone dressings. The roofs are Westmorland slate with flat stone gable copings, and kneelers to the wing. There are two corniced brick and ashlar chimneys. The main house is two storeys and an attic, with five windows. The central entrance has an 8-panelled door in a lugged architrave and flat Doric doorcase, with a triglyph frieze. All the windows are sash windows with glazing bars in lugged architraves, and are set under projecting cornices. There is an eaves cornice, a high parapet, and two 20th-century wooden dormers with bargeboards; the roof has been raised to the top of the parapet. The rear elevation features a raised surround to a round-headed stair window, with a keystone and impost blocks. A round bow at the left rear has three sash windows, with sill and eaves bands, and a cornice. Inside, the wide staircase has decorated tread ends and turned balusters, a wreathed grip handrail, and a curtail. There is also a panelled dado. The wing is of two low storeys and has two windows. A 6-panelled door is inserted at the left in a flat Tuscan doorcase, with a half-glazed door in the third bay. The windows are 20th century. A lower two-storey set-back is present at the right, with a 20th-century door and three windows, including a large sash window with glazing bars in the third bay.
