Description
This building, originally a stable for Whickham Hall (later known as the Rectory), is now a restaurant and house. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of sandstone ashlar, featuring a plinth and quoins, with a Welsh slate roof. The structure has two storeys, with one bay by six on the left return and two on the right return, although an adjoining building obscures some of the remaining bays.
The gable facing the street has a rubble plinth and a blind Venetian window with a raised surround beneath a round window, also in a raised surround. On the right return, there are two blocked-in carriage entrances with segmental arches on impost blocks, and above these are two round windows with raised surrounds. The left return features a late 18th or early 19th century double door under a flat stone lintel in the sixth bay, along with a round window high in the fifth bay.
