Description

Park Cottage is a house, originally built in the late 18th century as a coach house and stable. It’s constructed of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings, and has a steeply-pitched roof covered in graduated Westmorland slate, with flat stone gable coping and two end chimneys built of yellow brick. The two-storey, three-bay building features a centrally positioned, raised surround for a round-headed carriage entrance. This entrance is now filled with coursed rubble and contains an inserted nine-panelled door on the right-hand side. Flanking the entrance are two two-centred-arched windows with plain stone surrounds, which contain casement windows and fanlights. The first floor has round windows with raised stone surrounds, partially blocked and containing small two-pane casement windows. An eaves cornice and blocking course are largely hidden by ivy.
