Description

The bust of John English is a memorial located at the west corner of Church Chare in Whickham, created in 1860 by John Norven of Swalwell to honor John English, a renowned mason known for his strength. The memorial is made of sandstone and features a rusticated square plinth supporting the pedestal and bust of English. Originally positioned on Fellside, the bust was moved beside the house built by English, as arranged by Tyne and Wear County Council. This information is documented in W. Bourn's "Annals of the Parish of Whickham," published in 1982.
