Description

The monument to John Newton, located 1 yard south of the Church of St. Mary, is a churchyard memorial dating from 1757 and other various dates. It is made of sandstone and features a panel set in a moulded frame. At the top, there is a winged cherub positioned between scrolls. Below this, the design includes an open bible, a snake, an hourglass, and two cherubs holding trumpets. The lettering on the monument is well-executed.
