Description
The monument to John Jane is a chest tomb located in the churchyard approximately 4 metres south of the chancel wall of the Church of St Mary Magdalen. It dates from the mid to late 17th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a flat top with reserved corners and a cavetto edge moulding. On the north side, there is a high relief cartouche that includes the head of a cherub, while the other panels are plain. The base of the tomb was found to be sunk during a survey in November 1983. The inscription on the north side commemorates John Jane, who died in 1770, and on the south side, it commemorates Edmund Jane, who died in 1773. This monument lies about 2 metres south of the monument dedicated to the son of John Jane.
