Description

The Ovingham War Memorial is located in the south-east corner of the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade I listed building. The memorial features a tall, plain Latin cross made of sandstone, which rises from an octagonal pedestal. This pedestal is set on a three-stepped base.

The foot of the cross shaft is inscribed with the years 1914 and 1918, while the names of those commemorated from the First World War are carved into the front three faces of the pedestal. The dates 1939 and 1945 are noted at the foot of the centre-front face, with the names from the Second World War engraved on either side.
