Description

The Grotto, located 120 meters north-west of Skelton Castle, is a late 18th-century structure. It is built of coursed sandstone rubble with a brick rear wall and features a half-domed roof. The south front is a single storey with three bays. In the center, there is a round-headed doorway with voussoirs, which is flanked by canted bays that each have a single rectangular opening. The interior consists of a semicircular-plan chamber.
