Description

Skelton Mill Farmhouse and the remains of a mill date from the early to mid 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed from dressed sandstone with tooled margins and features a Welsh slate roof with stone ridge, gable copings, and moulded kneelers. The remains of the mill have a concrete roof. A stone stack is located at the left end of the farmhouse. The building is two storeys high with three windows. The central doorway has a renewed boarded door, an overlight with geometric glazing bars, and a raised flat surround. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, although the right window on the first floor has been renewed. The stone sills are painted.

Adjoining the farmhouse to the right are the remains of the mill, which is three storeys tall and has one window. The ground floor features a wide flat-arched opening with voussoirs that is now blocked, along with a boarded door and overlight to the left and a horizontal sash window with glazing bars to the right. The upper-floor windows have been blocked and painted to resemble sashes with glazing bars. The gable above the farmhouse to the left of the mill remains has stone coping, a moulded kneeler, and a rebuilt brick stack. There is a flat roof between the first and second floors of the mill.

In front of the house, there is an area wall with chamfered copings, ornamental iron railings, and a gate. A curved yard wall with curved copings and a boarded door adjoins the left side of the house. The rear elevation features a round-headed stair window. The farm outbuildings to the rear are not of interest. The mill was partly destroyed by aerial bombardment in 1942.
