Description

Number 7 is a house and shop located on the east side of Guisborough Market Place, dating from the mid-18th century. It contains evidence of an earlier structure in the inner party wall, featuring late medieval chamfered window surrounds, and may include stonework salvaged from St. Mary's Priory. The building is constructed of dressed sandstone, with the front elevation rendered and painted. It has a late 20th-century clay pantile roof and stands three storeys tall.

The late 19th-century square shop bay window has a heavy modillion cornice, with a doorway located to the right-hand side. There is a sash window with glazing bars on the first floor and a Yorkshire sash window with glazing bars on the second floor. The left-hand side features painted quoins. Originally, Number 7 was part of a terrace that extended across the east side of Market Place, but Nos. 1, 3, and 5 were demolished in the 1960s. As a result, the gable end of Number 7 is faced in dressed sandstone and shows the truncated remains of a projecting flue. The listing also includes a late 18th-century three-storey brick and pantile building that adjoins the southeast side, facing Church Street.
