Description
The Priory Dovecote, located to the west of the ruins of St. Mary's Priory, is a 14th-century structure that now serves as a garden store. It is built from dressed sandstone and features a mid-18th century pyramidal roof made of Welsh slate, complete with lead-roll ridges and a leaded, ogee-roofed open-sided timber cupola topped with a weather vane finial. The dovecote is octagonal in shape and has two storeys, with a drip mould running between the floors. The south elevation includes an equilateral headed doorway with a vertically boarded door. There are lancet windows on the first floor, and the east and west elevations have blocked segmental-headed openings, while the north elevation features a lancet opening. The timber nesting boxes that were once inside have been removed.
