Description

A house and shop, likely dating from the 17th century, with possible earlier origins, and altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of rendered and painted stone, with a late 20th-century concrete tiled roof, hipped and gabled in form, and a rendered brick stack to the right. It is three storeys high. The ground floor features a late 19th-century shop front with light fluted fascia columns and a moulded dentil cornice. An altered late 19th-century doorway is present, along with a late 20th-century shop front to the left. Upper floor windows have been altered or enlarged over time and now include sash windows, some with glazing bars, and fixed lights. The interior demonstrates an upper cruck roof structure. The building was formerly part of No 13 Market Place and was once ‘The Cock Inn’, an 18th-century coaching inn. It is included in the listing partly for group value considerations.
