Description

GLANTON GLANTON PIKE NU 01 SE 8/212 Dovecote and shelter shed 120 metres south-west of Glanton Pike II

Dovecote and shelter shed, later C19. Rubble with tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings; internal walls brick. Welsh slate roofs, with metal lantern on dovecote. South elevation: 2-storey dovecote on left has boarded door beneath square opening divided crosswise into 4 recesses, each with a pair of arched pigeon holes; alighting shelves on moulded corbels above and below (the lower shelf missing at time of survey). Dversailing embattled parapet; steep pyramidal roof with pyramid-topped lantern. On left of dovecote is a short wing wall. On right a projecting 2-bay shelter shed with monolith square piers and lintels; and doorway to right; coped gables on moulded kneelers.

Left return of dovecote shows boarded door above stone platform on moulded corbels.

Interior of shelter shed shows similar piers and lintels to those on front.

Attached boundary walls to east and west are not of special interest.
