Description
The dovecote and shelter shed, located 120 metres south-west of Glanton Pike, dates from the later 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings, while the internal walls are made of brick. The roofs are covered with Welsh slate, and there is a metal lantern on the dovecote.
On the south elevation, the two-storey dovecote is situated on the left. It features a boarded door beneath a square opening that is divided crosswise into four recesses, each containing a pair of arched pigeon holes. There are alighting shelves supported by moulded corbels both above and below, although the lower shelf was missing at the time of the survey. The dovecote is topped with an embattled parapet and a steep pyramidal roof that has a pyramid-topped lantern. To the left of the dovecote, there is a short wing wall. On the right, a projecting two-bay shelter shed is supported by monolith square piers and lintels, with a doorway to the right and coped gables on moulded kneelers.
The left return of the dovecote features a boarded door above a stone platform, which is also supported by moulded corbels. The interior of the shelter shed displays similar piers and lintels to those found on the front. The boundary walls attached to the east and west are not considered to be of special interest.
