Description
The dovecote, located 40 metres south-west of Glanton House, dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed from rubble with roughly-shaped and tooled dressings, topped by a blue Scottish slate roof. The roof features a timber lantern, which is capped by a 20th-century synthetic sheet. The dovecote has a circular plan and doorways on the north-east side. It includes a vertical pair of boarded doors set in alternating-block surrounds. The conical roof supports a low octagonal lantern, which has an arched pigeon hole on each alternate face, and is topped with a pyramidal cap.
Inside, the upper stage contains six tiers of nesting boxes that are recessed into the walls.
