Description

The Old Farmhouse is a late 18th-century house in Middleton Detchant. It is constructed with a rendered facade, dressed stone elsewhere, and ashlar dressings, topped with a Scottish slate roof. The main part of the house is two storeys high and comprises three bays, with a lower service wing attached to the left. Features include a plinth and rusticated quoins. A central, pedimented porch provides access via a panelled door with an overlight; the returns have 8-pane windows in raised stone surrounds. The windows are sash windows. The steeply-pitched roof has flat coping and end stacks, with the right-hand stack being renewed in brick. The service wing to the left has a lower roofline, with two bays to each side. Inside, a staircase has stick balusters and turned newels, complemented by 6-panel doors and shutters.
