Description

Norma James Dress Shop and the attached cottage at the rear are 18th-century buildings that were altered in the 19th century. They are constructed of rubble with cut dressings, featuring wooden shop fronts and a Welsh slate roof, along with some brick stacks. The front of the shop has two storeys and four irregular bays. In the second bay, there is a half-glazed door set in an alternating block surround with a narrow chamfer. The flanking shop fronts include a double shop front on the left and a triple shop front on the right, which originally had a central door. These shop fronts are decorated with colonettes, moulded capitals, and a nailhead cornice on consoles. The windows are renewed 12-pane sashes with tooled lintels. The right end has an old brick stack, while the left end features a stone stack that has been heightened in yellow brick. The left side of the building shows a 12-pane fixed window, with a renewed 12-pane sash window beneath a timber lintel above.

The attached cottage at the rear left is two storeys high with one bay. It has a renewed door on the right, set in a tooled irregular-block surround with a stop-chamfered lintel. There is a 16-pane sash window with a tooled lintel that forms the sill of a small 16-pane Yorkshire sash window beneath the eaves. The left end of the cottage has a stack that has been heightened in brick.
