Description
The Black Bull Inn is an inn dated 1765, with the west part featuring a door surround dated 1755 that incorporates earlier fabric, indicating it was a separate house until around 1670. The building is constructed of squared stone, with the west part made of rubble, and has tooled and painted quoins and dressings. It has a Welsh slate roof with new brick stacks. The front of the inn is two storeys high and consists of an irregular arrangement of 4 + 3 bays, with the left part projecting.
The left bay features panelled double doors set in a pedimented wooden doorcase. The central bays contain older blocked doorways that have had windows inserted; the left doorway has a raised stone surround, while the right has a moulded surround with a Greek key frieze and a dated pediment. A window between the blocked doors is a 20th-century addition. In the left part, there is a right-of-centre blocked doorway with a window inserted in a raised stone surround, which bears the date and inscription "Margy US (Usher)/EU."
All windows are 4-pane sashes, with original openings featuring tooled lintels and slightly projecting sills. The interior includes old beams and a fireplace in the eastern part.
