Description

The Angel Inn is a 17th-century inn that was extended in the 18th century. It features a mix of rubble, roughcast, and whitewashed surfaces, except for the east end, and has a Welsh slate roof with rendered brick stacks. The building is two storeys high and consists of three sections with 3, 4, and 3 bays.

The slightly taller central section has a left-of-centre six-panel door set under a moulded round-headed arch, which is framed in a square moulded surround. Above the door, there is a sundial in a moulded surround inscribed with "E A," representing Edward and Anne Winship. To the right of the door is a four-light mullioned and transomed window that holds old small-pane casements, while to the left is a twelve-pane sash window. The first floor features twelve-pane sashes.

The left section of the building has two tripartite sash windows, with three twelve-pane sashes above. The right section has a central six-panel door in a surround that mimics the main door, flanked by tripartite sashes, and three twelve-pane sashes above. All sash windows have been renewed and are set in raised surrounds, with some stuccoed. A stucco band runs below the flat-coped parapet, which steps up over the centre. The gables are coped, with end stacks on each part.

The left return of the building is rendered, while the right return displays two blocked stone-surround windows on the ground floor. The various rear wings and extensions have been significantly altered and are not of special interest.
