Description

The building is a house and shop, originally two cottages, dating from the early 18th century with an early 19th-century addition. The left-hand part of the building dates from the early 18th century, while the two-bay addition to the right was constructed in the early 19th century. The earlier range has an ashlar front, a tiled roof with coped verges, and a brick stack. The 19th-century addition is built in Flemish bond brick with a Welsh slate roof. The front of the building has three windows on the left-hand side, with a four-panelled door set within a bolection-moulded architrave and a broken pediment on consoles with an urn. To the right of the door is a canted shop window. The left-hand window is a three-light mullioned window with small sashes, pilasters below, and quoins with channelled rustication. A moulded string course runs along the first floor, above which are three mullioned windows; the centre window is blind, with small sashes on either side, and consoles to the sills. There is also a moulded stone eaves cornice. The left return is built of rubble stone. The 19th-century addition to the right has an early 20th-century shop front with a half-glazed central door, and two 16-pane sashes to the first floor. A two-storey rear wing is also present. Internally, the earlier part of the building retains a newel staircase and 18th-century panelling.
