Description
32 and 33 Market Place is a mid to late 19th-century Gothic building that stands three storeys tall. It features two windows on the south side and one on the east, constructed from coursed dressed rubble with a hipped slate roof sloping to the south, topped with a central corbelled chimney stack. The south front has blind gables over the windows, with plate glass sash windows arranged in pairs within a two-storey recess. The second-floor windows have lancet heads, adorned with blind trefoils, while the gables display blind foiled motifs. The building has modern shop windows with widely spaced glazing bars and a chamfered corner that includes a moulded doorcase supported by a moulded corbel above, which helps support the upper floors. The east front has paired windows to the right, with a side door below. There is also a single-storey brick extension to the right, featuring a restored early 19th-century double shop front with flat bows and glazing bars, along with a central doorcase flanked by panelled pilasters, which is all that remains of the former No 34 Market Place. St Andrew's Church and the other listed buildings in the Market Place create a group, with Nos 8, 10, and 16 being of local interest.
