Description
The United Reformed Church, originally a Presbyterian Church, was built in 1874 by F.R. Wilson. It features rock-faced stone and a roof made of Welsh and Lakeland slate, designed in the Romanesque style. This single-cell church has a south porch and a north vestry, with three bays. The porch on the left includes a round-headed doorway, and there are paired round-headed windows. The east window has three stepped lights with shafts and cushion capitals, and a similar window is found on the west side.
The church has a gabled roof with overlapping coping and gabled kneelers. Its polychrome patterned roof showcases bands of fish-scale slates and a band of Greek-key design above the eaves. Inside, the church features an open timber roof supported by large semicircular braces.
