Description

The bridge over Lewis Burn is a hump-backed structure built in 1829 for Sir J. Swinburn. It features a single broad segmental arch and has a plain parapet that flares out at each end. On the north side, there is an oval panel inscribed with: "ERECTED by Sir J.E. Swinburn Bt. of CAPHEATON under the direction of James Wilson of Greena AD 1829." This bridge was constructed as part of a private toll road that was opened in 1828.
