Description
This building complex, located about 20 yards west of Lowick High Steads Farmhouse, consists of shelter sheds, a dovecote, and a byre, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed from random rubble and brick, topped with a combination of pantiled and corrugated iron roofs. The layout features two ranges set at right angles to each other.
The longer range at the rear includes three segmental arches on both the left and right sides of a central square dovecote tower, which has a lower segmental arch on the ground floor. The upper sections of the tower are made of brick. The dovecote has a round entry with a wooden screen that includes alighting ledges and six holes for the doves. The tower is capped with a pyramidal pantiled roof. The shelter sheds have gabled roofs made of corrugated iron, although the sides of the tower show marks of the original very steeply-pitched roof.
To the right, there is a single-storey byre featuring a plank door and a steeply-pitched gabled roof covered in pantiles, with thin raised coping.
