Description
No. 5 Cheviot View is a house that was formerly the manse for the attached Presbyterian Church of Scotland, built in 1821 for the Reverend Israel Craigs. The exterior features scored stucco with ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof, along with rusticated quoins. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. The central door is set in a raised surround and is accompanied by a later 19th-century glazed porch.
The windows are 16-pane sash types, also in raised surrounds, although the ground-floor right window has lost its intermediate glazing bars. The roof is gabled with flat coping, and there is a stone stack at the right end, while the left end stack has been rebuilt in brick.
At the rear, there is a large round-headed staircase window along with five 16-pane sash windows. Inside, the house features six-panelled doors, internal shutters, and a staircase with turned balusters. There is a 20th-century one-bay addition on the left side, which is not of special interest.
