Description

Column Cottage is a building dating from after 1817, originally known as "Wager Cottage." It was constructed in a fortnight for the Duchess of Northumberland to win a wager with the third Duke. The cottage is set back on the corner with Prudhoe Street and is a single storey structure with a gable-lit attic. It features two windows and is built of ashlar with a slate roof. The central gabled porch projects and has "Percy Crescent" inscribed above the door. The windows are cross casement style with labels above them, and the gable ends are designed as open pediments. There is a central chimney on the roof.
