Description
The farm buildings and wall located to the north-east of East Farmhouse date from the mid-18th century, with an early 19th-century gingang. They are constructed from coursed, roughly-squared stone with roughly-tooled dressings and feature pantile roofs. The single-storey buildings are arranged around a yard that opens to the south, with the gingang positioned at the rear of the west range.
The north range includes a four-bay segmental arcade. The east range is divided into two sections: the northern part has a stable door and a slit vent, while the lower southern part, which is slightly later, features a boarded door and a part-slatted window, along with a similar door at the south end. The west range also consists of two sections; the taller barn on the right has a boarded door and slit vents, while the left part has a similar door and a part-slatted window at the south end. All doorways are framed with heavy alternating-block surrounds, and the gables have steep pitches with reverse-stepped copings. A flat-coped wall with two gateways encloses the yard.
The hexagonal gingang is supported by stone and brick piers and has a pyramidal roof, although it was noted to be in poor condition at the time of the survey.
This site is an unusually well-preserved example of an early foldyard layout, creating a picturesque grouping. The 20th-century brick additions around the gingang are not considered to be of special interest.
