Description
Twin lodges and gatepiers to Tillmouth Park Hotel are a pair of gate lodges built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of ashlar stone and topped with Welsh slate roofs, showcasing a Gothick style. The lodges are single-storey and flank a central gateway. Each lodge features tall square corniced piers adorned with Gothick panels and quatrefoils in the friezes. The lodges have castellated end walls, each consisting of two bays with 2-light mullioned windows that are set beneath hoodmoulds. The merlons of the castellations have two blank cusped panels, and there are similar end piers. The front of the lodges has four bays, including a panelled door in the third bay and more 2-light mullioned windows under hoodmoulds, all topped with castellated parapets. The design is attributed to Mackenzie of Newcastle, dated 1825.
