Description
North Lodge is a pair of lodges connected by a gateway, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The northern lodge has later additions and was restored in the late 20th century. The buildings are constructed of ashlar with Welsh slate roofs and are single-storey, with the northern lodge featuring a basement. Each lodge is a single cell, not including the additions. The main entrances, which have 4-panel doors, face each other and are framed by pilaster jambs that support triangular pediments. Each side elevation includes a sash window set in a round-arched, archivolted panel. The northern lodge has an addition with a catslide roof to the left of the window on the west side, and the entire building has been extended to the north with later openings on the north elevation. The southern lodge features a blind window on its south side (rear). The northern lodge has a hipped roof, while the southern lodge has a pyramidal roof, and both have a central stack. A stone wall connects the two lodges, which are each topped with square gate piers that have ornamental ball finials. Inside, the southern lodge has a brick arch supported by two spine beams, which carries the flue from the south wall to the central stack.
