Description
Tiptoe Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with early 19th-century additions. It is constructed from random rubble with stone dressings and features a Scottish slate roof edged with Welsh slate, along with stone and brick stacks. The building has two storeys and four bays, with a projecting bay on the right side that dates from the early 19th century.
The front features a panelled door with an overlight located in the second bay, flanked by 12-pane sash windows set under relieving arches. The projecting bay has larger 12-pane sashes with projecting sills. The older section of the house has a steeply-pitched roof with coping and kneelers, and there are four brick end and ridge stacks with dentils. The projecting wing has a hipped roof and a stone ridge stack, and there are two lean-tos at the rear.
Inside, there is a mid-18th-century staircase with a heavily-moulded handrail, turned balusters with square knops, and plain square newels. The doors and shutters are fielded-panel style.
There is a 20th-century addition to the right rear of the house, which is not of special interest.
