Description

This headstone, located 6 metres east of the Church of St Andrew, was created by James Lough and is made of sandstone. It features a shaped top with a sunk panel surrounded by an ornamental border. The design includes an 'In Memoriam' scroll positioned between cherub's heads, along with birds, foliage, and fruit. The inscription commemorates six members of the Chatt family who died between 1815 and 1822. This piece is noted as Lough's first work of monumental sculpture. The information is referenced in Archdeacon Singleton's returns for 1828, as quoted in Northumberland County History Volume 6, page 306.
