Description

The Thompson headstone, located 6 metres west of the Church of St. Andrews, dates from around 1820. It is made of sandstone and features a shaped top with a carving of a seated female figure adorned with drapery and a scroll. The headstone bears an inscription dedicated to various members of the Thompson family who died between 1813 and 1819. This piece is noted as the third work of monumental sculpture by Lough. Additionally, it is referenced in Archdeacon Singleton's returns for 1828, as cited in the Northumberland County History.
