WHALTON A 696 NZ 17 NW (West side) 6/142 Milepost on north side of Shiningpool Bridge II Milepost, early C20, probably by Smith Paterson of Blaydon. Cast iron, painted black on white. Shield-shaped plate with NEWCASTLE 13 BELSAY ¾, on circular shaft with lower raised rectangular plate 'PONTELAND 5'.
