Description

This is a milepost located on the north side of Shiningpool Bridge, dating from the early 20th century, likely made by Smith Paterson of Blaydon. It is constructed from cast iron and is painted black on a white background. The milepost features a shield-shaped plate that reads "NEWCASTLE 13 BELSAY ¾" and is mounted on a circular shaft with a lower raised rectangular plate that states "PONTELAND 5".
