Description

The tombstone of the Batie family, located approximately 7 yards southwest of the south porch of the Church of St. Peter, dates from around 1717 to 1776. It is made of sandstone and features a shouldered top with small cherubs in the center. One side has a moulded inset panel for the inscription, while the other side displays a rustic cherub along with the verse: "My friends go home & cease from tears I Must lye hear til christ Apeares."
