Description

Batstone headstone is located approximately 6 metres south-east of the south transept of the Church of St John. This small headstone, dated 1758, commemorates Sarah Batstone. It is made of hamstone and stands about 450mm high. The headstone features a segmental arched top with a carving of a winged cherub's head. Below this, there is a plain frame surrounding the inscription. The first word of the inscription is in Gothic lettering, while the remainder is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, noting the death of Sarah Batstone in 1758.
