Description
The Martin Monument is a pedestal tomb located about 7 meters northwest of the porch in the churchyard of the Church of St. Peter. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of sandstone. The monument features a moulded curved pyramidal cap topped with a small pineapple finial, and it stands on a tall plinth that was once enclosed by a railing. The frieze is decorated with rosettes and fluted sections, and each face of the monument has a raised plain oval panel adorned with draped leaf decoration. It commemorates the Martin family, with the earliest recorded member, Samuel, having died in 1795. At the time of the survey in January 1986, the base was noted to be partly breaking up.
