Description

Harris, four Niblett monuments and two unidentified monuments are located about 6 meters north of the end of the east chancel in the churchyard of the Church of St. Peter. This group includes five chest tombs and two headstones made of limestone. The chest tomb dedicated to Alice Harris dates from the mid to late 17th century and features a plain slab top, sides, and ends. The four chest tombs to the east are all dedicated to Daniel Niblett, arranged in a line from north to south, with dates of 1733, 1745, 1772 or 1777, and 1783. The first three Niblett tombs have flat tops, wide moulded plinths, and capping on a single large base, with lyre ends and high relief elaborate carvings on the ends and returns. The sides of the central chest have reliefs flanking curved panels, while the outer pair features rectangular or square panels. The southernmost tomb is made of sandstone, is tall with a flat top, and has a moulded plinth and capping on its base. It has half round ends with a frieze of rosettes and fluting, an applied urn at one end, and cherubs on the west side, along with raised oval panels on the sides.
