Description

The Estate House is a house built around 1780, with early 19th century and 20th century additions. It is constructed of ashlar stone and has a Welsh slate roof. The building has two storeys and features a central block with three bays, flanked by early 19th century wings that were raised to two storeys in 1930. The central block has flat arches with voussoirs over the windows and door, with 12-pane sash windows on the first floor and 16-pane sash windows on the ground floor. The right wing includes an early 19th century gabled porch with a square peak and a 16-pane sash window. The one-bay left wing has a 16-pane sash window on the ground floor and a 12-pane sash window above, which is from the 20th century. The roof is gabled with flat coping stones and stone corniced gable-end stacks, while the wings have hipped roofs.

Inside, there is a plain early 19th century staircase, six-panelled doors, and plain late 18th century fireplaces. One room features early 17th century panelling with fluted pilasters, which was brought from Chillingham Castle, along with an overmantel made from a 16th century panel depicting three King's heads in roundels, also from Chillingham Castle. The overmantel panel is illustrated in the Northumberland County History, Volume XIV.
