Description
There are two chest tombs located approximately 2 meters south of the southeast corner of the chancel of the Church of St. Peter. The tombs date from 1668 and 1738 and are made of sandstone. Each tomb features a moulded plinth and top. The northern tomb has fielded panelled angles and slate inscription slabs on the north and south sides. The inscription on the north side commemorates Richard Warwick, who died in 1633, and includes details about the charity he founded. The south side bears an inscription stating, "This tombstone now erected by us JOHN BURTON, THOMAS FREER, JN. REYNOLDS, JOSEPH STEEL, THOMAS FORTESCUE, ROBERT BURTON, Trustees 1738." The southern tomb, dated 1668, has angle pilasters, and its top features a curved central section with segmental pediments, along with an inscription panel set in a simple moulded surround.
