Description
The Former County Primary School, dated 1879 on the gable panel, is a building constructed of squared stone with ashlar quoins and dressings. It features a slate roof adorned with ridge tiles, each displaying three pierced trefoils, and has coped gables. The structure is a rectangular block with two parallel wings at the rear. The front elevation is one storey high and consists of three wide bays arranged symmetrically. The central projecting bay contains two pointed windows, each featuring two trefoil-headed lights and a pierced quatrefoil in the spandrel, along with paired hoodmoulds that have foliage-carved stops. Above this is an oculus with a hoodmould. The gable is coped and topped with a foliate finial. The flanking bays each have a similar central window with a gablet above, and square-headed casements on either side. The left side of the building has a pedimented gable that encloses a panel inscribed 'BOARD SCHOOL' along with the date, while the right side features a projecting bay with a datestone and gablet on the rear wing.
