Description
The Church of England School, built in 1864, is a church school constructed from hammer-dressed stone with rusticated ashlar quoins and a pitched slate roof. The building features stone copings on gables with moulded footstones, ball and stalk finials, and moulded stone brackets. It has a half storey and a basement, with a central part that is a single storey oriented east-west, flanked by a single storey wing to the west and a two-storey wing to the east.
On the north side, the central part includes a porch with a pitched roof that displays the date 1864. Flanking the porch are two two-light windows featuring pointed arches, Y-tracery, and diamond glazing. The eastern wing has three large ground floor windows with stone mullions and transoms, while the upper floor has three windows with pointed arched heads and Y-tracery, with the centre window being larger and having a relieving arch above. The two-storey hipped roof extension on the west side contains five two-light stone mullioned windows with semi-circular heads and hood moulds. The western wing is a small single storey extension with a hipped roof, featuring two windows with pointed arched heads and Y-tracery, also with diamond glazing. The north gable has a single opening at the apex with a pointed arched head.
On the south side, there are eight windows with pointed arched heads and Y-tracery, all with diamond glazing. The basement level includes several doorways (some partially blocked) and various single and two-light windows. The south gable of the eastern wing has four single lights at the basement level and three windows with stone mullions and transoms on the ground floor. The upper floor features three windows with pointed arched heads and Y-tracery, with the centre light being larger and having a relieving arch above. The west elevation showcases a central gable with two pointed arched windows and one mullioned and transomed window. The east elevation has seven pointed arched windows and a small light in the gable apex.
