Description
The engine house and attached outbuildings, located 30 metres north-west of Shildonhill Farmhouse, were built in the mid-19th century as part of a planned farm layout. The structure is made of roughly-squared stone with cut quoins and dressings. It features a brick chimney stack in English Garden Wall Bond, set on a rock-faced ashlar base, and has Welsh slate roofs. The north elevation is two storeys high and has four bays, including a stable door with a pitching door above in the second bay and part-slatted windows. The right return displays similar openings. At the rear, there are lower pent-roofed sections with an attached chimney that has a square base, with the upper corners chamfered back to a bold roll moulding at the base of a tapering circular stack, topped by a moulded stone ring below a heavy moulded stone cornice. The attached range of farm buildings to the east is not of special interest.
