Description

The walls of the walled garden, located 100 metres south-west of Beaufront Castle, were built around 1790 for John Errington. The doorways were altered around 1840 by John Dobson, with doors dated 1916. The walls are constructed of brick in English garden wall bond, featuring ashlar dressings and stone coping. The garden is rectangular, with rounded northern angles and side walls that extend beyond the lower south wall. There are doorways at each end of the south wall and at the north end of the west wall, as well as a gateway at the north end of the east wall. The thick walls contain blocked heating ducts, except on the south side, and have flat slab coping that sweeps down at the ends of the side walls. Two chimneypots are positioned near the centre on the north side. The openings feature panelled doors with ornate bronze door furniture and flat-pointed heads in square frames, with the west opening being slightly more elaborate. Hoodmoulds are set in thickened sections of the wall, and there are panelled double gates.
