Description

SANDHOE BEAUFRONT NY 96 NE 5/298 Walls of Walled Garden 100 metres south-west of Beaufront Castle

GV II

Garden walls, c.1790 for John Errington; doorways altered c.1840 by John Dobson, doors dated 1916. Brick in English garden wall bond with ashlar dressings and stone coping. Rectangular garden with northern angles rounded and side walls extened beyond lower south wall; doorways at each end of south wall and at north end of west wall, gateway at north end of east wall. Thick wall with blocked heating ducts, except on south; flat slab coping; swept down at end of side walls. 2 chimneypots near centre on north. Panelled doors with ornate bronze door furniture, in openings with flat-pointed heads in square frames (that on west a little more elaborate), and hoodmoulds, set in thickened sections of wall. Panelled double gates.
