Description

BELFORD NEWLANDS NU 13 SW 7/126 Farmbuildings and cottages c.60 yards north of Newlands House GV II Shelter sheds with granary over, former threshing barn, dovecote, byres, stables and cottages. Late C18 and early C19. Dressed stone with Welsh slate roofs. E-plan. Long rear range of shelter sheds with 4 segmental arches to left, and 4 to right of projecting central range; half-shuttered windows above. Projecting from centre a 2-storey dovecote with boarded door on ground floor, quatrefoil and 2 sets of pigeon holes above; pyramidal roof. Single-storey byre attached. To left, L-plan range of byres, barn and stables. Irregular openings with boarded doors and shuttered windows. Gabled and hipped roofs, reverse-stepped coping to gables. Interior of barn retains much of the machinery from the water thresher, but not the wheel. Cottages and forge in wing to right. 2-storey cottages with boarded doors and 12-pane sashes. Several lst-floor windows altered. Forge has stable-type door and half-slatted windows. Hipped roof.
