Description

NU 04 SW KYLOE BERRINGTON

2/56 Walled garden and well c.300 yards south of Berrington House GV II

Walled garden. Medieval to C18. Random rubble, dressed stone, ashlar and old brick in different sections. Large, c.lOO yards by 80 yards, with a projection at south-east corner.

Wall c.10 ft. high of many periods has C18 doors with chamfered surrounds on north and east sides.

South wall has many architectural fragments incorporated including fireplaces and doors with moulded surrounds. This is reputed to be walling from earlier manor house. One whole wall and gable end stand to full height now with a Venetian window in the gable end.

Garden shed in south-west corner. Ashlar with moulded cornice and pyramidal Scottish slate roof.

Well, near south wall, circular, lined with dressed stone.
