GV II

School, now private art gallery and house. c.1860 probably by S.S. Teulon. Coursed rubble with cut quoins and dressings, green slate roof. Irregular cruciform plan. Free C13 style. Front elevation 1 storey, 5 bays, irregular. Bay 2 has projectbigable with transomed 3-light window and finial cross; stepped stack with ornate terracotta pot on left return. Flanking lower gabled porches with pointed arches and trefoiled finials; that to left now glazed, that to right holds door with decorative ironwork. Low block with coped left gable behind left porch. Full-height block behind right porch continues 2 bays to right, with paired lancets, block corbel table to eaves and coped right gable. Single-stepped buttresses; kneelers with sunk trefoiled panels; gabled dormers with slatted vents; all roofs steeply pitched. Returns show similar fenestration. The roof of the central cross-wing (bay 2) was formerly capped by a tall wooden bellcote. Included for group value.
