Description
The Lambert headstone, located 6 metres south of the Church of St. Michael and All Angels, dates from 1764 and features later additions to its inscription. It is made of cut sandstone and has a shaped top with a carving of a cherub above an oval panel that is inscribed with the words "Prepare to meet thy God" and decorative foliage. The inscriptions on the headstone include:
"Here lies Jane, who when in Life Was Joy, Comfort: Crown and Wife to Thomas Lambert of Old Felton 1764 The Sweet Remembrance of the Just Shall flourish when they sleep in Dust" (which also commemorates Thomas and George Lambert, who died in 1770 and 1798).
On the reverse side, it reads: "Be on your Guard, watch and pray In the Prime of Life we're calld away" (dedicated to Isabella, wife of George Lambert, who died in 1812).
Additionally, it states: "In sure and certain Hope to rise, And claim her Mansion in the Skies, A Christian here her Flesh laid down The Cross exchanging for the Crown."
