Description

The gate screen at the drive entrance, located 220 metres south of Morwick Hall, dates from the late 18th century and was brought from Tynemouth to Morwick by Mr. William Linskill around 1860. It is constructed from squared stone with ashlar piers. The main piers feature monolithic octagonal shafts with moulded plinths and caps, which are adorned with acanthus friezes and domed tops. To the south, there is a 1-metre high quadrant wall that has a moulded plinth and renewed coping that slopes up at each end. At the north end, there is a longer wing wall that is 0.6 metres high with flat slab coping. The lower end piers are similar to the main piers but do not have friezes.
