Description
Allenheads Hall is a country house built in 1854 as a residence for Thomas Sopwith, who was a mine agent and engineer, and may have also been the architect. The building is constructed of squared stone with tooled and margined quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with slate roofs. It has an irregular L-plan and features an eclectic style with Gothic details.
The entrance front is two storeys high and consists of six bays, with the three bays on the left facing the stable yard. In the fifth bay, there is a slightly projecting porch adorned with a heavy cornice. The windows are 12-pane sash windows with shouldered lintels. A corbel table runs along the eaves, and the hipped roofs have corniced ridge stacks. The west front has four irregular bays, including a canted bay. The interior has not been seen.
