Description

The Allenheads Estate Offices, built in the mid 19th century, serve as both offices and a village hall. The building is constructed from squared rubble with tooled and margined quoins, stone dressings, and features a slate mansard roof. It has an 'L' plan layout and consists of one tall storey with ten slightly irregular bays. The structure includes a plinth, and the sixth bay is accessed by three stone steps leading to part-glazed hinged doors within a heavy porch that has a moulded cornice, flanked by half-width sash windows. The lath bay features stone steps leading to a four-panel door that opens into the village hall, set in a raised stone surround. The building has twelve-pane sash windows in stone surrounds with slightly projecting sills. There are four ashlar stepped and corniced stacks located at the break of slope on the roof.

On the right return, there are two similar sash windows and an outshut that is set forward to the rear wing. This wing has three stone steps leading to a boarded door in its right return, and the right return of the wing features a coped gable with moulded kneelers supporting a stepped and corniced stack. The rear elevation of the wing includes four windows. Inside, the village hall displays panelled shutters and window reveals, along with a contemporary round-arched fireplace. The building is marked as "Garden House" on the Ordnance Survey map.
