Description

Nos 2 and 4 Clayport Street is a late 18th century to early 19th century building located at the corner of Fenkle Street, which was altered in 1866. The building stands three storeys high, featuring three windows facing Clayport Street and two windows on Fenkle Street. It is constructed of ashlar stone and has a moulded cill string at the first floor and a cill band at the second floor. The roof is slightly tented and hipped at the corner, supported by four brick chimneys.

The second floor has six late glazed sash windows overlooking Clayport Street. The first floor windows are adorned with moulded architraves and pediments, three of which feature carved tympana that include the date 1866 and the initials JL, JL, and EA on the east side, while the south side has one window with arch-headed glazing. The ground floor has been partially painted.

The shop front on the east side, dating from 1866, includes panelled pilasters and a shouldered window, along with round-headed doorways topped with foliate caps and a dogtooth cornice. On the south side, there are two round-headed doorways with keystones and six-panel doors, as well as a small shop window in the centre that has been recently altered with plain plate glass.
